Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us: editors@makingofadentist.com. You do not need to be the subject of the piece, a patient, or a dentist.
How we handle them
- A factual error is corrected in the article and a dated correction note is appended. The note stays there permanently. We do not quietly edit and move on.
- A significant error — one that changes what a reader would do — also gets a line at the top of the piece, not just the bottom.
- A typo or broken link is just fixed, with no note.
- If a clinical claim turns out to be contested rather than settled, we amend the piece to say so and credit whoever raised it.
- If a piece cannot be fixed, it is withdrawn and replaced with a note explaining why. It is not deleted, because a deleted URL is a worse record than an honest one.
Timing
We aim to acknowledge within two working days and to resolve within ten. Corrections involving a contributor’s clinical claim take longer, because we go back to them and to the source.
If you are the patient in a story
Patients in these articles are anonymised and details are changed. If you recognise yourself and are not comfortable, write to us and we will change or remove the passage. You do not have to explain why, and we will not ask the contributor to weigh in on whether you should feel that way.
